I'm not one for conspiracy theories, but I remember reading something sometime ago about an allegation that Apple build in obsolescence.

I didn't believe it...I'm using an iPod that's over 10 years old.

However...

During the week my wife's iPhone, which was 2 years old, just died, so she had to go any buy a replacement. We checked our records, and her previous 3 iPhones all lasted about 2 years before giving up the ghost.

Coincidence? More than likely - but bloody annoying.

Hmmm, not sure. I’m hanging on to grim death at getting my iPhone 7 to 3 years in July. The battery life has been alarmingly shitey for the past 3-4 months so I think I’ll have to bite the bullet and buy one pretty soon
you#re not alone on the conpiracy theory front.
How many times have people had something (fridge/tv/etc go phut the day or week after the guarantee has expired?

The length of the guarantee only reflects the faith the manufacturer has in its product :-)
Well done, Apple....you've got customers who continue to buy your products, time after time, despite them failing after a ludicrously short time.
Says as much about the customers as it does about Apple.
I’m currently using an old iPhone 6s which needs a new battery but is otherwise working perfectly.

My wife’s iPhone is even older
I have got iphones that are almost 12 years old and still work fine, my sister's is 10 years old, my current phone is around 5 years old. I still run a 12 year old ipad although the memory is small and it weighs a ton.
Same thing happened to hubby's phone. Was working perfectly then one day, everything packed up. It's the second time and I've told him not to buy another Apple.
I have an iPhone5 which will be 8 years old this coming September and I love it.
Regarding batteries. I had trouble with mine not even lasting a day a while back. I had changed provider and couldn't get a signal in my flat and had to go outside to take or make a call. So I changed to Giffgaff which uses 02 network which has the best coverage. Brilliant signal and guess what ... my battery now lasts 2-3 days without needing a charge. I guess the battery was getting drained searching for a signal all day.
There's a lesson in there somewhere.
I have an iPad 4 which works, fine but I am no longer able to update it so, when I wanted to download an ereader, I didn't have enough spec for Kindle. Luckily managed to get Kobo which is good enough. Apple do try and make you buy new appliances.
Try a fairly upmarket android phone - buy it yourself and have a sim only deal. The usual issue with androids is lack of space with so much unwanted junk installed - hence buying one with good memory upfront 32gig or more.
