Please can anyone explain to me how firms employing tactics such as the above make their money? Like most people I get quite some of these calls - usually on my landline - saying for example that my Amazon Prime account is up for renewal. As I don't have such an account I always put the phone down. Admittedly I don't hear the message through but I've been told you would be asked to - say - press button one.
I'm interested to know what happens if you do. Do you get through to a real person who asks for bank details etc? Or is there some other way your accounts can be accessed?
