We have been several times to Egypt - but not for last 4 years for obvious reasons. We had a visa for Marsa Alam, bought at airport - we had a visa when we went to Sharm because we were going into Cairo. Can't remember if we had one when we went down the Nile. According to the Egyptian Gov. website if you are going to Sharm , Taba and several other places you do not need one.
Sinai resorts 15-day permission stamp

According to the Egyptian Consulate General in the United Kingdom citizens do not require a visa prior to travelling as a free entry permission stamp will be granted upon arrival if they are travelling to Sharm El Sheikh, Dahab, Nuweiba and Taba resorts only without leaving them and for a maximum of 14 days.
When I went to Sharm El Sheikh I did not get a VISA, but we did not travel off the peninsula.
