Maxie is a great little dog and from I got him was always happy to get one good meal a day. This past few weeks like a few hours after the meal - he is rattling the plate looking for more food. Sometimes I give in to him and put a few bits and bobs in his dish but I don't want to do it all the time.

Anybody know why he is looking for food so much and am I doing the right thing.

He may be just bored and it's something to do - try spreading the same amount of food that he's eating now across two separate meals.
What does he weigh?
^ agree - what's his weight like or does he seem thin? I thought most people fed their dogs twice a day. Hunger like that can also be a symptom of worms.
I have had dogs for many years, as have most of my friends, you should be feeding him two meals a day. What breed is he, how old, has he been wormed. Imagine if you only had one meal a day, you would be hungry. I am sure once you get him on regular meals he will be fine, if not, see the vet to make sure there is not an underlying problem.
Definitely two meals a day according to most doggie books.

ok - thanks all for your replies. I will give him another small meal when he rattles the plate
I don't think I'd feed him "on demand", but instead at 2 regular set times. You may creat a demanding little dog that way.
JJ just divide the amount of food you would normally give him daily into two portions, feeding him say at 8am and 5pm. But first please check on the packet/tin that you are feeding him the correct amount for his weight. He may be bored, does he go for plenty of walks?
