No doubt you will enlighten us.
Didn't a Y get used ? Same words/meanings anyway.
Your question seems to assume that the (modern) Latin alphabet is the only one that's ever existed! That might come as a surprise to someone from, Russia, Saudi Arabia or Greece (where they don't use the Latin alphabet) or, indeed to someone from Japan or China (where there's no alphabet at all!)

Most of the Bible was written using the Greek alphabet, where Jerusalem would have been written as Ιερουσαλήμ. In the official languages in use in Jerusalem today, the city's name is written as either ירושלים (in Hebrew) or بيت المقدس (in Arabic), so they seem to get along perfectly well without the letter 'j'!

W begins with a D. how random is that?
My word! Isn't that interesting!
Or watch Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade

there were iewes and ierusalem and yahweh, but they were most likely pronounced with the sound we use for J. (But this would vary. Germans pronounce Ja as Ya.)
Furreners eh ? Tsk.
I wonder if zillionaire1 is pondering this...or hiding because he's a bit...wrong?
The word jerusalem in the cyrillic language/alphabet is
Иерусалим

Does that mean that it doesn't exist to cyrillic speakers now because they don't have a J?

Or does it mean that languages are different and they can evolve but the concept or place they're describing is the same?
I think all of those things were there. They probably just spelt them differently.

So, if we are to believe the OP - and not the resulting posts - it was Oseph, Mary and baby Esus we should be putting in our nativity settings.
