no place like home
Was it ‘Sorry’ with Ronnie Corbett as the grown up son who still lived at home, his father was henpecked by the bossy mother.
I think you may have combined two comedies.

Possibly 'No Place Like Home'
the husband/father (Arthur) and neighbour (Trevor) would occasionally escape family in the greenhouse.

...along with 'Dear John'
Kirk St Moritz would hit on Kate at the singles club, often calling her "Tiger".

I think ‘No place like home’ could be it, but I’m sure there was someone, perhaps a son-in-law, who would come home from work and call out ‘Tiger’s home!’ I don’t think it was ‘Sorry’ or ‘Dear John’.
Was it Raymond the traffic warden who said that?

Together with follyfancier, I think you might have cracked it, barry. Pity I can't give two best answers.

Thanks all.

Daniel Hill played the same character in No Place Like Home as he did in Waiting for God, just different names and jobs
