Snooker commentators keep saying it's more difficult to pot balls along the baulk cushion than it is along the bottom cushion. Why should that be? Any statistics to back it up?

I’m sure part of the reason is that they brush the cloth towards the bottom cushion.
They brush the cloth with the nap which is usually toward the top end of the table. Therefore the ball, particularly when hit lightly, has a tendency to move away from the cushion.
Perhaps more importantly:

WHERE'S THE CUE BALL GOING!!?? :-)
