Fao Sqad Please.

Hi Sqad, need your advice please re painkillers. I had my lung cancer op by VATS in Guy's on 13 Dec and came home on 18th with the following to control the pain.
I have Paracetamol 500mg caplets take two tablets four times a day, Dihydrocodeine 30mg tablets take one tablet every 4 - 6 hours, Morphine Oral Solution 10mg/5ml take 5mls to 10mls four times a day.
Mostly just two of the Paracetamol have been enough to control my pain with the occasional one x Dihydrocodeine in between doses. I think I have overtired myself in the last couple of days and this dosage is not enough to control the pain anymore. So my question is could you advise what would be the best combination safe dosage to take that is a bit stronger than what I am already taking. I've no idea which I can mix with what and don't want to end up in hospital again.

At home, I have always used silver dressings, as they seem to make a difference. I have never been into "alternative", as to me, that usually just means "unproven".
However, we once started with a lady with bed sores and her daughters had bought Manuka honey... which we tried, although sceptical... you could almost see her bedsores healing. I couldn't believe the difference.

Pixie - I'm just interested like do you put the Manuka honey on ordinary bandages or can you buy Manuka honey bandages

gness I do not think I have been given wrong information re silver dressings as every site I've looked at has said the same thing and that is silver dressings are not to be used on clean wounds. Here's one:

If/when my team say they will use silver dressings then I will go along with it but until then I will carry on trusting them to do the best for me. Please don't undermine my trust in them as that is not helping me at all. I'm sorry for your experience with the NHS but it is to mine.

if you have a dehiscence and pain has returned I think it is time for another visit to the doctor

Stick with what the professionals are telling you Ladybirder. They know what is best for you in your case.

When I had an operation last February I did everything I was advised to do by the medical staff, including injecting into my stomach for DVT prevention ( not nice but better than those stockings! ). As a result I recovered fine. Your operation is far more serious and painful, so I wish you well and hope your recovery is relatively quick.

back when i wa a student nurse in the community, people just applied manuka honey directly on the wound, then covered it (people had their own pot at home used just for them. Nowadays, some 25 years later you can get honey impregnated dressings (on prescription),
