All done except 'observes pieces hoarded by French aristocrats,not English. Probably 10 letters. I have C-MME, T- DAE for the 2 parts. Help welcome then I can get back to enjoying Christmas!! Have a good one everyone.

Thanks. After a little light lifting I can fit that in so now Christmas eve can get underway and a starter glass of Prosecco awaits. However realize 8down (City's run down in period of sacrifice(4)) reads OM-R????
Brownbelle, that other one is Omer - I looked it up when I did the puzzle, can't remember the actual definition now! The 'city's run down' means we move the R in Rome, so it goes to the bottom.
