Thank you so much everyone. Some of the questions are ridiculously hard.

19 down is Yeast I think!
Lynne= imagine minus i (letter east of imagine) Best I could come up with. Some setters use east and west for first and last letters of a word.
I tried that last night Danny (see link) - the easternmost letter in 'Imagine' is 'e'
Doh, it is,Must learn my compass points. In that case, like you, I can't see a parse, but am pretty sure enigma is correct.Must admit there are some dodgy clues.
Any ideas on parsing Yeast??
Re: Yeast

It may be better if we could have a definite way the clue is set out; we've had two alternatives so far

1 t....Y
2 T .... S

which is correct?
maybe if clue was 't then vertical space ending in Y then Yeast coming upwards meaning Yeast rises?
^ a bit like a ditloid!
That's the RTE Xmas Crossword for you......you spend an hour or more getting 90% of it done. Then you get a clue for which there could be 3 or 4 different answers with no way of being sure what is correct.
