Whilst doing a clear out of food cupboards to make space for all the new products being bought. Came across a Christmas pudding. Best before date Oct 2017. As they mature more after being left. Would you attempt to cook and eat it.

Personally No. not worth the risk of tummy trouble. Bin it.
No issue with it. It'd be too sugary and maybe alcoholic for anything to get to it in a mere 2 years.
yes OK

oddly enough, I worked with a loner, odd he was, blah de blah
and the other normal workers asked

you have deep deep conversations,
what do you talk about? - and what is that porno mag you laugh about?
and I said: he has a PhD in botany, and the magazine we pass to each other is his copy of 'Nature'

and gues what?

besides light emitting fungi ( he knew an awful lot about that)
we talked about poisons from time in out of date cakey and plum pud

see the answer above - very likely to be sterile. anaerobic fungi are a possibility but they wont harm you - to specialised to exist anywhjere else

well yo did ask......
I would eat it too.
No !
Definitely a No here, we throw all out of date stuff out
I thinkk she means 'yes'
or even maybe !

sorry sorry werong thread - this is meant to be on the chatting up
aand courting thread

ter dah !
out o date is exactly that

not - might be poison - not sure...

and the reason is: selling bad food is strict
saying - oo I dunno is not a defence

so..... out of date means not perfect and NOT could be poisoned - not even may be

and the consequence is: people chuck out good food

so PP you dont root around dustbins...
I am going to plead the fifth on that one
too much like hard work investigating other people's rubbish bins these days, PP, humans are being outcompeted by foxes.
Anyway, that's the council's job.
Well I wouldn't. I loathe christnas pudding either in or out of date.
Definitely eat it (as long as there's mo mould on it when you open the packaging).
I would eat it - but then, I'm a mean Scot ha ha
In the ‘old days’ when we didn’t have best before or use by, we just looked at food, smelled it, felt it. If it looked, smelled, felt right, we ate it. I don’t remember ever having any sort of food poisoning. We cut mould off cheese, scraped mould off the top of jam. I would eat the pud. Cook it well and enjoy it. Probably taste better after a couple of years too.
Definitely eat it. I have one in my cupboard with that date too which I’d forgotten about. We’re having it this year. It contains alcohol and I’ll give it an extra dose of brandy as well! Yum.........
Best before is a guideline, and things don't suddenly become poison and riddled with bacteria after that date. Use common sense...and don't waste food based on that date.
I still cut the mould off cheese, scrape it off jam etc. Open the pudding, smell it, cook it, eat it.
Totally agree with helly.
Oh...and I'd eat it too, if I liked it!
