Using youtube music videos I used to find it easy to use an MP4 to MP3 converter. Now all the sites I've looked at seem to be "dodgy" and trying to send me sexualised images.
Are there any safe ones out there?

Are you not implying that you already have a converter used in the past ? Has it stopped working at YouTube ?

Yes Old_Geezer I have used sites in the past which no longer work. Others have appeared through Google which try to offer various dating services or try to take over my laptop.
I see, you use a third party site to make the conversion and stream the result to you. I've no experience in this area but can see that method would attract malicious individuals wanting to use it as a way to get to you. Is there no programme you could download from a reputable source to do the conversions for you ?

Otherwise I'll leave this to someone more knowledgable.
It would seem to make most sense to use a method of downloading the Youtube content which simply gives you the MP3 file in the first place. There are loads of sites which claim to be able to do exactly that. For example, I've just tried this one with no problems:
https://youtubemp3.today/

However if I've already got an MP4 file, that I want to extract MP3 audio from, I simply use VLC to do it:

Stream-ripping is, of course, totally illegal though!
I used to use the online converters and found that they downloaded too much rubbish on to my system - especially one called flv (steer clear at all costs!). Now I use a free program that I have downloaded and its brilliant. I can just copy the URLs into it and it downloads them really quickly, it can even download a whole album or a playlist for you. As soon as I am back on my own PC at home I will let you know what its called because I can't remember of the top of my head (the joys of getting old!).
I echo much of the above. Unpleasant memories of Freecorder, mp3fibre, etc.
Then I came across this little gem.

James tried out your converter and it really is brilliant. Thanks for this tip!!

You're right, they do come and go.
It is called Any Video Converter and is a free download at
www.any-video-converter.com. It is a program that you download onto your system and you just copy the URLs on to it and it converts them into anything you want. There are dozens of different formats from video to audio that you can convert them into. I have been using it for the last 6 months and it is brilliant.
