Hard Skin On Hand

Im wondering what has caused this. My hands and nails sre in good condition eith no roughness. But I have recently developed a strange area of very hard leathery skin on the base of the palm on the opposite side to the thumb.
It's about an inch in diameter and the surface is broken slightly and catches on things.
It's a bit warmer than the same area on the other hand
I don't do any repetitive work which might account for it and it doesn't seem to respond to the usual hand creams.
Any thoughts please ? Thanks.

What usual hand creams?
It could well be a patch of contact dermatitis.
Nip into the pharmacist and buy HC45 cream or hydrocortisone cream1% which is basically the same,,,apply twice daily and return to AB after a week if there is no improvement.
