Hi
My neighbour is looking for a life insurance or life assurance policy (don't know what the difference is), she is 86 years old, she is not sure which companies would cover her, she is looking for something that would cover her funeral and would offer full cover at the start of the policy that she can pay monthly. Can anyone give her advise on a good company that is not too expensive as I have no idea? Thanks in advance.

She's 86 and wants full cover from the word "go"? And doesn't want to pay very much? Now, why do I think that's going to be a difficult one?
I don't think many insurance companies will take on anyone over the age of eighty. This is the age that most adverts for insurance quote as the upper age limit.
funeral plan at her age is a bad idea
my neigbour has one that pays out less the longer you pay in
[ the one the pundit on tee vee said - it is so bad I rang to check before I went on air - it really is that bad]

off the top of my pretty head - her life expectancy at 85 is three years so she should put aside[in a separate account,] a third of the cost of a funeral each year. At least it will pay out as much as she paid in ( into a bank account that is)

she is trying to be a late joiner - very late joiner - of a scheme which whooppee ! will pay out more than she has put in - - you should disabuse her of this little plan - life isnt like that
I would be VERY surprised if such a company exists ! If one does it will inevitably be EXPENSIVE !!
Please refrain from adding emphasis in CAPITAL LETTERS as this indicates shouting and is considered rude.
How about me and my wife?
I am 69 and she is 68.
Need to do this soon.
Roughly how much per month for enough cover for a basic cheap funeral?
Any help much appreciated.
Ask June and that idiot that keeps bringing her parsnips round on Sun Life.:0)

we have covered This Before
and the point was made that a single word in Capitals was emphasis

Lady Caroline Lamb - the mad one, luffer of Byron, and then mad wife of long suffering Prime Minister, Melbourne used to write impassioned Letters FULL of capitals and breathless under lined prose. I try to do the same.

I would like anyone pronouncing a word in caps
to take on, whilst they read, a bug eyed look
a cross between Princess Di pouting at er someone whilst regretting being the Third in a Royal Union
and the wide eyed look of the Mad Hatter saying - No ROom! before Alice insists that there is plenty of room

the picture is complete
er Theland
read the er bible - I am the light and the life and those who believe in me with have everlasting life

Funeral therefore not needed

No seriously - I would start a fund as above - a fren'/ and or neighbour has two and I KEEP on saying loudly at him,
Dont take out any more they are a bad bad deal
[ stage direction: sprinkle caps to taste]
take on bug eyed look

and the parsnip advert - Very Difficult not to shout at screen
DIE ! DIIIIIIIEE! both of you !
two funeral insurance deals
and not two sinkjing funds
oh for £7 a month he will get £500
it was around £1000
yeah th is iss the one that goes down the longer you pay
honestly a bad bad deal
EDDIE, I posted a link to a suitable site an hour before yours.
oh - I didnt post a link
because I didnt think there was one !

The difference is that insurance provides cover for things that might happen whereas assurance provides for things that will happen.

Life insurance will pay out if the proposer meets an untimely death. It will pay an agreed sum to the policyholder's dependants in the event that they die. The policy will have an end date (usually when the proposer reaches a certain age) after which no payments will be made on the policyholder's death.

Life assurance will pay on the policyholder's death at whatever age (so long as the policy premiums continue to be paid. They usually have a minimum sum assured but the payout will increase as the policy becomes older because there is a "bonus" element which sees some of the premium invested on the policyholder's behalf.
