I have several hundred MP3 music files on my laptop, individual tracks, running on Windows 10.

The Index is running Z - A - how can I get it to run A - Z please.

Also, about three hundred are in a section labeled 'Unspecified' - how do I get them to merge into the main Index?

Thanks.

I've not seen "Unspecified", but you might come across it during that procedure...?
Download a free tool called copy trans control it has tools for doing all sorts of media listing or amendment - although it says ipod etc it can be used on pcs.
You've not told us where you're viewing the index but in most programs, and in Windows explorer, you simply click on the relevant column heading to reverse the order of a list.

Hi Chris

The files are in the 'Music' directory on the left side - I have tried clicking, nothing happens.

Also, do you know how I can get the 'Unspecified' into the main file index? Tried dragging and dropping, again, no effect.

Thanks.
I'm using Windows 7 but I can't see why the basic way the Windows Explorer works should be any different in Windows 10.

For example, if I examine a folder within 'Music' I see this
http://www.upl.co/uploads/Music11574800770.jpg
Simply clicking on 'Name' reverses the alphabetical order, so that I see this
http://www.upl.co/uploads/Music21574800831.jpg

If 'Unspecified' is a folder within 'Music', double-click on it to open it.

Then press Ctrl and A together to select everything in it.

Then press Ctrl and C together to copy everything that you've just selected into your clipboard.

Return to the previous view (where you're looking at 'Music') and click somewhere in the window to place your cursor in it.

Then click Ctrl and V together. That will paste the contents of your clipboard into the 'Music' folder.

You've now got TWO copies of all of the relevant music tracks, with one copy being in the 'Music' folder and another one within the 'Unspecified' subfolder, so you can now right-click on 'Unspecified' and select 'Delete' to get rid of the unwanted duplicates.
slightly of topic, but this program can clean up all mp3's and flac files
to many options to list here, but its a great program.

Hi Chris

Thanks as always for your post.

The 'Unspecified' is not a separate file, it's simply at the end of the A-Z list of files, and when I Cntrl/A, it simply picks up everything in the Music folder, so it's not taking the part I want.

Any further ideas much appreciated!

I just tried to take a screenshot to show you what I am looking at, and I can't make it do that either!!!

have you tried just using shift key to highlight the files, and ctrl to deselect the ones you do not want, then a right click on the highlighted ones to cut or copy.
I'm fumbling in the dark here but here are three (totally independent) thoughts anyway:

1. Microsoft seem to have remove the Snipping Tool from Windows 10. You now need to install Snip & Sketch to replace it:
https://www.microsoft.com/en-gb/p/snip-sketch/9mz95kl8mr0l?activetab=pivot:overviewtab
Once you've got that you should be able to take (and save) a screenshot, enabling you to upload it to here: http://upl.co/
(Copt the 'Direct' link, and paste it here, so that we can see what you're looking at).

2. You can select a block of files (such as those within your 'Unspecified' list ) by clicking on the first one to highlight it and then holding down the Shift key when you click on the last one. You can then try dragging-&-dropping, or cutting-&-pasting, that block to where you want it.

3. It might help to try to work out what it is that's 'unspecified' about the relevant files but not about the others. (e.g. it might be that all of your 'normal' files have a specified artist but the others don't). Then the answer about using 'Arrange by', given here, might help:

Excuse me if I'm hitting the obvious here...

Have you tried the view settings in explorer.

http://www.upl.co/uploads/heres-view1574893401.png

Once you've hit that look at and try the different view settings

Details is probably the one to go for, but it's only a view setting so try them all.
