I want to start a new tradition where we all play a family game at Christmas but I don’t want a monopoly type game (I truly hate monopoly). I don’t want it to be based on general knowledge (as girl is horribly clever and ticks the others off with how much she knows) and there will be seven of us (hopefully) playing (but I can team up with thing 1). Anyone got any ideas for something fun that’ll make us laugh.

articulate
Does it need to be a board game? (I hate those lol). We have done everything from Charades, to naming something by the taste, Kim's game, cards...
Or pictionary
Another vote for articulate.
Vote for Articulate from me too.

Have girl investigating Articulate, thanks all.
Skyjo is brilliant or Mexican Train
Why not just write names of people and stick it on people's foreheads. They then have to guess who they are by asking yes/no questions. The cost is a pack of sticky pads and a pen. You can then adjust the game for younger/older people. eg for a parent you might choose say Angela Rippon (from his/her era) and for a child "Hermione Grainger" (yes I know that is 20 years old now, but I dont have kids round me - you get the jist!). The point being everyone can feel involved.

Or charades (I know, I know) but when you've had a few it can be extremely funny. (But you are probably playing with your children and my version of charades can get a little smutty).
Charades? - I was expecting you to suggest 'spin the bottle'...
Me?!

I was thinking "truth or dare" with tequila, but I imagine Sherrard doesnt want her kids hammered.

And as for the "naked run" game, less said the better.
The name of the game you are suggesting, Barmaid, is Who Am I? Great to play when the kids are involved but when they've gone to bed, you could turn it into a game of Blind Brag. Instead of a sheet of sticky pad, the dealer places a card on, face outward, on each players forehead, including his/her own. Every player can see the value of all the cards bar their own. Then the bragging begins and, before anyone accuses me of trying to fleece the friends, family and neighbours at Christmas, you can always set a limit on how high the fund grows. After a few sherbets, it is quite a fun game.
Articulate is good, but a bit serious and girl will still win!

Pictionary is more neutral and good fun for the whole family. Otherwise i agree with Barmaid about playing Guess Who with a packet of post-its. Or how about Twister!
There’s a game we played one year called ‘Pass the Bomb’. Like Pass the Parcel but you don’t want to be the one holding it when the timer goes off. You need to think and talk quickly rather than have loads of general knowledge.
Played Pass the Pigs for the first time last year. Very simple but hilarious. Worth having a look at.

Thanks everyone, I’ll give it some thought - I like the idea of articulate because it requires no effort but I suppose I could make some cards in advance for the who am I guessing game. If it’s not all ready to go, then they’ll lose interest. We’ve got a bit of a thing against charades because that’s how some people say our surname when they lump us all together - it seems a bit up ourselves to be playing our own game :)
Consequences can be fun (and smutty when the young ones are in bed)

You could try the 'hot air balloon' game. If anyone's interested I'll explain.
