Help! - I am lucky enough to have a hedgehog hibernating in the garden within a box full of straw.
My question is - what are my duties now? Do I just leave him/her to get on with it...should I put out food (there is water already)?...should I move the box to somewhere warmer?...can I move the straw without waking him/her up as I don't know if there's just the one having a kip.
A great responsibility on a disappearing species.

ask boaty on GMEB, he has had several hotel residents and some back for a few years......
You are very lucky.
Wish I had one.
Just leave it alone, it will be fine undisturbed.
I am jealous :-)
Yes Boaty jis the man.
It's so important that we continue to look after our hedgehogs, thank you for thinking to help this iconic species. If there's a hog that's happily snoozing, then the best thing is to leave it to sleep away. Don't move it, but the thing to remember is that they do wake up during warmer periods. Hogs don't sleep all the way through to the Spring and during warmer periods my wake for food and water. So perhaps consider leaving dry food out under cover over the winter period. There is lots of info on the British Hedgehog Preservation Society Website https://www.britishhedgehogs.org.uk/ - look for guidance under the 'Information' tab.
Just leave it. Maybe give it another layer of straw/dried leaves.

You could leave dry food and water for it, incase it wakes for the odd night. Never give it milk or bread.

I think mine have gone into hibernation - I haven't seen then for the past 2-3 nights.

The hedgehog has chosen your box of straw because it is ideal. The best thing you could do for it is continue to provide water and you could also offer some food.
Can I get a hog or two as pets and make my garden a hog heaven?
That's great Scobalob.
Please be careful not to disturb it, now its gone into hibernation.
