Thanks, prudie x I was going with real-life...
You can buy them over the counter in Thailand. Years ago I had a really bad throat and I had to get back to London. I went to a local chemist around the corner (needs must and all that). I was a bit sceptical about what she sold me so I went to the Boots branch which was up the road in Bangkok to verify that I had actually been sold the right thing. Yes, of course I had they said. When I got home and my throat was as bad as ever I went to the GP and she said that my antibiotics were very interesting as that type were given to people with bone infections after surgery.
and that's the problem with using the ones that weren't prescribed for you.
additionally, the ones I get for sinusitis are the ones you can't have alcohol with.....imagine using those and not knowing the precautions!
I think most people have a least a basic idea of them and any they are allergic to. If not, don't do it- obviously. But amoxicillin is the same, whoever's name is on the box.
Doc gave me antibiotics for a surgery wound that was bit slow healing. I didn't think I needed them as it wasn't red or inflamed so I didn't take them & it healed fine. Kept the pills just in case I needed them for something else.
but the something else might not respond to that antibiotic
It's pretty wide-ranging.

Amoxcyllin AN is used to treat a range of infections caused by bacteria. These may be infections of the chest (pneumonia), tonsils (tonsillitis), sinuses (sinusitis), urinary and genital tract, skin and fleshy tissues.
I would certainly take amoxicillin from a reputable source than chance poking around with a needle I always have some on hand. I wouldn't take any other type of antibiotic though. After all, on the continent you can buy amoxicillin from a chemist. Unless you are allergic to penicillin, it's safe and its what you would get from A&E.
