No link as they seem to want to keep it low profile but it looks like Sainsburys have taken the decision not to sell fireworks this year. If you or someone you know are affected by the constant barrage of noise, mess and smoke that happens at this season (and when did Firework Night become Firework season?) then you might like to comment on their facebook page or website? Hopefully another step in the right direction.

Much as I would love to say something to spath, I realise it would be a complete waste of time so I won't waste my time and energy. This is just to let anyone know who might be interested in contacting Sainsburys. I wrote them an email to congratulate them for taking this stance, but unfortunately, it has come back as having the wrong email address. I left the s off so...

It may be that, like using plastic carrier bags, the publicity over the last few years is actually effecting a social change in some areas. I do think that the publicity has meant that more people have felt able to say that the frequent and random use does give them a problem.
Question Author
oh. Maybe not then Jno
The problem with publicity and social change can mean that nobody has any fun any more.
Question Author
its what happens when the "fun" ceases to be fun :(
For who, the majority or the minority? You can't please everyone.
Heard my first one tonight.

Again..it's not about killing fun. Controlled displays are fun, kids letting them off in the street is not fun.
What an excellent post at 21:45.
Great post by Woofgang. I'm not old, miserable, wanting to curtail people's fun etc... I love watching fireworks. It's when they are used increasingly irresponsibly and dangerously and in an antisocial manner, over a longer period of time, something needs to change.

Saw this in the local news this morning, "'at least' two fireworks were set off underneath the main runway approach"..."One of the fireworks exploded 'directly next to' the landing plane, which then aborted its landing".

This is a very busy city airport, which is the base for the local Air Ambulance and has flying lessons (so people with not much experience), it's near a very busy built up area, near housing, motorways and not far from the Trafford Centre/Sea Life Centre/Lego Land/Chill Factor and a large number of other businesses.

Woofy - Excellent. In my head I was composing something very similar to jourdain. But you said it all. We cant turn back the clocks. Times have changed. Society is different. Its a huge problem that needs sorting. I love to see people having fun, but not at the expense of other people's health and welfare. Regrettably, society has become very selfish.
Question Author
thank you all. I have posted similar many times in different places. Its what I genuinely believe. Times change. Sometimes for the better and sometimes not. Either way we can't turn the clock back.
"kids letting them off in the street is not fun."

That's not legal.

still doesn't justify why I can't let one off in my big old garden?

That's like saying cooking is fun... Knife crime in the streets isn't so lets ban knifes??
//That's like saying cooking is fun... Knife crime in the streets isn't so lets ban knifes??//

If you need a zombie knife or Rambo knife to peel youe spuds ,mate, you are doing it wrong!
Only if you're cooking bangers and garnishing with rocket, Spatho.
Regardless... Compring something illegal to something that is legal is pointless.

You can't say.. Yeah controlled demonstrations are fun but putting them through old peoples letter box's isn't...

Well yeah you're not suppose to put them through letter boxes, blow them up in the street or misuse them. But people misuse everything, especially cars and their speed. So many deaths, so much damage from cars, they're not needed with push bikes, they only offer more speed.. they're not banned?

Think people need to realise that people will misuse everything it doesn't mean the vast majority can't use them for their correct purpose still.

The idiots will always make the most noise.
