Why is WhatsApp different on iPad as on iPhone?

can you get whatsapp on ipad? The only one I have seen just repeats from my iphone ie you can't use it when iphone is turned off

Some tablets can hold SIMs. Not sure about iPads. Otherwise one has to link the tablet to a phone via the website. No experience of Apple version WhatsApp but it'll look however the programmers decided.

Thanks both of you guys. It’s always puzzled me why Apps aren’t compatible between iPhone, iPad and iMac. Why can’t they work in the same way as email? Whichever device I use to go to email it’s always the same. Does anyone know why it has to be different?

WhatsApp requires a mobile telephone number to work, as such it was designed for and primarily runs on phones. It has been developed so that it can run in a browser on tablets & computers as long as they can connect to a phone. Lots of apps are the same between devices, especially nowadays as Apple are converging their OSs to look and behave similarly.

OG some ipads can hold sims but they are for data and not for phonecalls....you can't yet make a phonecall from an ipad although you can link an iphone and an ipad so that the call comes through your ipad. Apps for mac computers can do more which is why they are different. Most if not all of the apps for iphone will work on an ipad (at least all the ones I have tried do) but they may not work at full ipad screen size. Apps that need a mobile phone number such as whatsapp, don't becuase the ipad can't do phonecalls.
