Gran Canaria - Where To Stay?

Thinking of taking a week in Gran Canaria in early November. I haven't been there before and I am looking for relevant personal experience of where to stay. We are a couple in our 50s with no children who like to explore the historic/geographical/cultural/arts aspects of an area as well as good food and wine. I can do google searches myself, so I'm really looking for personal experiences/recommendations please.
The most useful advice would be which area to stay in, but after that i'd love recommendations about what to do/see and where to eat/drink in that area.
Thanks.

Puerto de Mogan is very nice but beware some of the shops selling fake merchandise. i`d avoid the noisier Playa Del Ingles and Puerto Rico.

Thanks CAC. I have read that Puerto de Morgan is nice and quiet compared to those other resorts. Do you think it might be a bit dead in mid November?
No, it’s a year round resort
All resorts in that area might be a little quieter than usual: https://www.bbc.com/news/world-europe-49997775
I have timeshare there so I have been at various times and never noticed any significant difference in population. The temps are pretty good as its level with the Sahara.
