Moving Sim Card To Tablet

I've got a Samsung Galaxy S8 phone and a Samsung Galaxy Tab A tablet. I have a SIM only contract with 3 that has a 100GB data allowance of which 30GB is allowed for tethering. I've had to tether extensively this month because I'm away from home in a pretty remote area without wi-fi and I've used about two thirds of the tethering allowance.
Would it be possible to take the SIM card from the phone and put it in the tablet so that I no longer have to tether from the phone? I fully understand that the phone will be useless for the time it doesn't have a SIM card installed, but I dont mind that if I could use the tablet to watch the odd film over the next week or two. I hardly ever use the phone on the internet so I was thinking of making better use of that 70GB that's left.
Sorry if I'm being a bit naive about this. I'd have thought that some technical feature of the phone or tablet would stop me doing this but I thought I'd ask anyway!
Thank you.

I'd have thought that if the tablet had a slot for a SIM card (not all do) then you could use it as simply another handset. Check the manual.
