Hello, does anyone know why when I purchase bread rolls, batches, baps of all varieties, wholemeal, white, brown etc they are always damp / cold on the bottom, but fine on the top, the batches / baps that I purchase are in cellophane. Thank you.

They have likely been frozen after leaving the place where they are produced, as most bread is nowadays. The shop where you purchased them hasn't thawed them out properly before you bought them.
You need to point it out to the bakery manager (if a supermarket)...I find it rather off-putting to see condensation/water drops inside the otherwise clear packaging.
Err I dont know how anyone can even begin to answer this question without more info from the OP
To begin with, it's not only in-store bakery rolls, batches
Heat rises?
(Sorry!)
...that are sold in cellophane type packaging. Supermarkets have their own brand stuff made by independent bakeries also wrapped in cellophane.

Can you give us more information about this daz1969?
I'm confused. Whilst rolls in in-store bakeries do tend to be sold in a cellophane-type packaging, in-store bakery batches are usually sold in perforated plastic film.
On the other hand, supermarket bread and rolls that are found in the main bread aisle of a supermarket are usually sold either in cellophane film, a PE plastic bag or waxed paper.

^^Err, well you managed to begin to answer this question without more info from the OP...and then some.
gingebee, that was because initially, the question looked simple to answer because I was thinking in terms of cellophane only and what bread products it was used to wrap in supermarkets.
After some deeper thought, I realised that the OP might be referring to perforated plastic film rather than cellophane in the strict sense.
The answer to the question does depend on the type of film used.
The bakery manager is not responsible for bread product sold in-store that are not produced on the premises in any UK supermarket - that's the responsibility of the grocery manager.
Maybe you should try my local shops, daz, never had this problem.
Life's a batch innit?
hairygrape- it looks like have you replied under the wrong user name.
Easily done if you are both logged in.
Buy your rolls from a local bakery. They are so much nicer than soggy, supermarket ones.
f-f... hairygrape asked a question about "kitchen block salt" a while ago....and the prof answered (at length)...spilt personality?
