Radio sets, including car radios, were exempted from the fee in 1971.
1923, ten bob would have purchasing power of 30 quid today.

Fascinating. I was aware that you had to have a radio licence if you didn't have a tv licence when I was growing up but I never knew a separate licence was needed for the car radio.
