Think you need to read your policy and/or phone the insurance company
good advice from busybee - some companies may consider yesterday's situation in the "act of war" category and therefore outside the terms of their policy. nevertheless, those same companies may be prepared to treat each case sympathetically on its own merits. ring them without delay.
Looking at my policy, I would not have been covered. The travel delay section excludes delays/cancellations caused by actions of the Civil Aviation Authority or similar bodies. There is no other section that would have applied.

But check your own policy

I phoned up my travel insurance. They said no cover at all as "act of terrorism". They said most insurers have this feature. Its not fair as the terrorists have hit every customer in the pocket. Imagaine familys going abroad. Would cost them hundreds/thousands in lost hotels/flights etc.
There will be a public outcry over this.
There wasn't an act of terrorism. Your insurers must pay up!
People going on package tours with a tour operator will largely be covered (though still inconvenienced) - the tour operator will have to offer a refund or an alternative booking. Perhaps when one of the few times that booking a holiday DIY doesn't save you money compared to booking a package. I doubt if there will be an outcry.
