Packing my bag for tomorrow morning's departure for France I'm minded of the advice of John Arlott when asked what one should not travel without, he said 'Always take two corkscrews, because if one breaks, you're ***'

"The man at the customs checkpoint asked me why I was taking bottles of wine to France. I replied that my friend had told me that, if you really enjoy wine, the only place to drink it is in France"
- Kenneth Horne
John Arlott's quote actually relates to attending a cricket match (rather than to travel in general): "If you go to the cricket with a couple of bottles of wine, always remember to take two corkscrews. Because if you take one and it breaks, you're bugg3red." (As cited by Blowers here: https://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/cricket/3249408/Henry-Blofeld-Ill-never-retire.-Id-drink-myself-to-death.html )

A love of the finer things in life seemed to be a common link among the TMS team back in those days ;-)
I think the best travel advice is: take half the clothes and twice the money
Khandro - have a good trip. We're off to France later in the year for four weeks. Love the place and the people.
You'll need twice the money for all the clothes shopping.
don't forget a gilet jaunes!
