Birthday coming up for a good friend and I'm looking for a good book. She's an avid reader and I'd like to get a book to go with a novelty for the occasion. Any suggestions please would be appreciated.

How old is he/she?
Sorry. Just saw the'she'.
Get her a book voucher.
What sort of literature does she like?
Do you know what genre she would like? Have a look at these 2 and see what you think.

Quirky? I have enjoyed the Miss Peregrines School for Peculiar Children series. The first one (as above) had me ehthralled so I just had to buy the rest. It is now a film but I always prefer the book!
Have seen the film of The Light between Oceans and it is superb. Will have to get the book for some holiday reading. True love story as Michael Fassbender and Alicia Vikander who played the main parts fell for each other and are now married. Aaah
I think the novel is better than the film, Bakers Dozen. Didn't know that about the actors, so romantic!
and The Seven Deaths Of Evelyn Hardcastle......now that is an enthralling read.

Thanks to all who responded.

I know there are some AB readers who read a lot and was hoping for more titles to choose from but I've decided to look at two which I think she would like.

Spicerack, no, no voucher. That wouldn't do.

The book suggested by elliemay1, 'The light between the Oceans' looks good.
Suggested by mallyj 'The seven deaths of Evelyn Hardcastle' might be the ones I think she would like better. so thank you for the suggestions.x
I 100% agree with the suggestion of The Light between Oceans, it is a fabulous book and the film was just as good. How interesting to read the two main characters fell in love in real life, I didn't know that. Another lovely book is A Thousand Splendid Suns by Khaled Hosseni, would totally recommend this.
Butter bun, it's been out a long while but have you read The Help busy Kathryn Stockett?
I loved the Light between Oceans. Brilliant book. But it was so sad at the end it made me cry!
Sorry, dunno why *busy* went before The Help
The Lacuna by Barbara Kingsolver has been out a long time now, but is a great novel, involving Frida Khalo the Mexican artist. Also very gripping is One Night in Winter by Simon Sebag Montefiore.
margaret - me too. Such a sad ending.
//The seven deaths of Evelyn Hardcastle' might be the ones //

I read this when it first came out. It is extremely clever albeit somewhat convaluted.

I seem to recall that even the author had post-it notes everywhere whilst writing the book such was the intricacy of the plot!

Thanks for the suggestions, will have a look on Amazon to see what they're like. Will get one of them soon.x
Just remembered my daughter passed on a book to me which I would never have chosen and insisted that I read it. I was hooked and could not put it down. The First Phone Call from Heaven by Mitch Albom. Really quirky. I loved it.
