I have just purchased a wireless key-board and mouse, and it works a treat on my desktop computer, but I would also like to use it on my laptop, would I need to take the nano receiver out of the desktop computer's USB port and insert it into the laptop computer's USB port?

Or can one purchase spare Nano receivers?

Buy a 2nd wireless mouse. About £8 from Home Bargains.
The receivers are tuned to the mouse you buy them with so, yes, you will need to plug it into the laptop. My wife and I each have a laptop with a cordless mouse; what fun it would be if the mouse and receiver weren't uniquely paired as we'd pick up each other's mouse movements.
