The first series featured a young Montalbano played by an actor who was bow-legged. Now that he's an older man and played by a different actor, did the producers only audition bandy men or would that be considered "leg-ist"?

Are you sure that it's a different actor? (I've not seen the programme myself).

IMDB says that Luca Zingaretti has played Commissario Salvo Montalbano all the way through from 1999 to 2019:

I always thought the Montalbano was the older one, and that the young M was brought in to cash in on the brand,

Whoops! It never occurred to me that it could be the same bloke!

I've just done a bit more research and the young Montalbano was played by a different actor called Michele Riondino.
Either way does it matter? -they were both very well acted - I loved both the young (with the emergence of all the series regular characters) and the old. Didnt seem to matter that "the beginning" was filmed in the middle, as it seemed to explain a lot (IMHO)
I love the series both young and older Montalbano. I really look forward to when they bring out the new episodes , although with the last four that have just been shown they chucked in a couple of old episodes, naughty !
