Opens tonight with hosts France most likely getting their tournament off to a 3 point start against South Korea. Yes, i know strange things have been happening in sport, lately, but i can only go on the stats and they point to a comfortable win for the host nation. I just hope that the ladies from South Korea play with a good deal of pride and keep the score down to 3-0 (5/1).
Also been having a look at the tournament as a whole but cannot come to a decision as to who i think will lift the trophy. The USA and France are jt favs @ 7/2; France have an obvious chance as hosts playing on their own soil, while the USA have been the dominant force of ladies football for some time. However, their new 'keeper looks a bit iffy which, in turn, makes their defence less stable. Think i'll wait until i've seen a few games before i lay any money down but i am having a punt on Dutch striker Vivianne Meidema to finish the tournament as top scorer. The 22 year old has scored goals for whoever she has played for and has just had a fine season with Arsenal Ladies, scoring 20 goals in 17 games, winning the Super League in the process. She is 9/1 to be awarded the Golden Boot.

France 3-0 up with about 10 mins to go and all i'm being offered 'cash-out' is half of what i would win should it remain 3-0 :-( Almost tempted but just had a nice 50+/1 7 game acca in the Euro qualifiers, drawing £174.70 - so £150 is on it's cyber path to my bank account.

Ha, just as i pressed 'answer now' Les Blues got a 4th. Who cares? :-))

Looks as if my Top goalscorer bet is already doomed - after only one match played:-( Holland won 1-0 without Vivianne Meidema scoring while the USA were putting 13 goals past a hapless and hopeless Thai side (they shipped 4 in a 10 minute spell in the 2nd half!). Five of their goals were scored by Alex Morgan who, surely, wouldn't need to score too many more to receive the Golden Boot.
