webbo3 - The Guardian article is misleading. It's a 69.4% return of all postal votes, not votes overall.
There's a petition doing the rounds at the moment hoping to have this poll investigated, because the vast number of postal votes appear to have gone to Labour. The figure that's being bandied about on the web is 85% of the total (total postal votes = approx 18% of all votes cast). That's roughly 5,000 out of a total of about 6,000 (still a big chunk of Labour's vote if confirmed).

Ms Forbes may have retained the seat for Labour however slim the margin of victory but there is no hiding away from the fact that whatever apologies she makes, there is absolutely no sign of the Labour Party getting to grips with the anti-Semitism issue.

Of course it’s more than a stretch to say the CIA created ISIS. It’s wilful misrepresentation of the facts.

Sometimes your enemy’s enemy is your friend. We collaborated with one of the worst dictators in history in WWII to defeat an even worse one. I don’t think anyone would argue that that was wrong or that the Soviet colonisation of E Europe was the work of the west, even tho in some instances more could have been done.

Without smirking......When do you suppose that the electoral commission will be launching forensic investigations into voting irregularities? Had the Brexit candidate, rightly, been declared the winner of the by election we would already have just such a process in action. Called for by the EUSSR, the Muslim League, Antifa, Anti-Semites from all around the World, and you man rites lawyers and "crowd funded" Remainiacs.

The council insists there were no irregularities with the postal vote and the Returning Officer has released a statement giving some of the official data.
The postal vote was much bigger than I thought, there were 9,898 postal votes in total, with 400 rejected (so, 29% of all votes were postal). That's a very big percentage (the UK average is 18%) even in a General Election.
Only Labour had enough feet on the ground and sufficient time to fully exploit the postal vote (even the left-wing press acknowledges that fact) and it looks like they got away with it.
