I called it at the time but Brundle (and err indoors) thought not, turns out the stewards agreed with me.

I dont think the crowd agreed with you.
Question Author
indeed, fortunately the crowd don't decide these things.
They do when they stay away from races.
Question Author
no they don't, the attendance at races does not effect the results, or the points allocation or the rules or their application.
Without the fans there would be be no races..LOL..Sky are struggling to sell the F1 packages and attendances are down year on year.Lewis and Seb fought a good race and it was ruined by a bad decision.
Vettle acted like a spoilt child afterwards.
So Hamilton forced vettel into an error
Question Author
Ryzen, the tifs are angry over this, they didn't seem to mind when Hamilton had the same happen to him in 2008. They are just one small section of the crowd and they'll be back for the next race when they've got the toys back in their pram.
Question Author
yes baz, hamilton forced the error, Vettel went off and rejoined unsafely. Hence 5 sec penalty.
Let's hope Vettel gets a penalty for his disgraceful behaviour in switching the positions signs at the end of the race. Start at the back of the grid next time perhaps? At least it would make for a more interesting race.
A driver of his calibre could easily have kept the car more to the left and given Lewis the required cars width rather than nearly putting him into the barrier. I didnt see any penalty for Leclerc for rejoining the wrong side of the bollards.
Vettel would have been happy to take the win had the situation been in reverse.

Whether or not I agree or disagree with the judgement Vettel made the mistake, he should accept that and act like a man not a petulant child about it.
I don't, however, think England's penalty against the Scots was valid.

I would prefer to stick with 'ball to hand' rule

Once again it shows that Vettel makes mistakes when he comes under pressure

It's not the first time , is it , that he has made a mistake , when the car behind , is Hamilton

More widely these are the rules that F1 go racing under .
The stewards had no option but to apply the rules as they currently stand

If Ferrari / fans / other teams ,wants more
' aggressive ' racing , as in other motor sports competitions , then F1 will need to look into changing the rules ; perhaps for 2021
