Efficiency Drive
Two young women are in a trendy restaurant enjoying a business lunch. One of them drops her spoon on the floor and she summons a waiter.
“I’m dreadfully sorry, I’ve dropped my spoon. Could I have another one please.”
The waiter swiftly produces one from his top pocket.
“That’s excellent. Thank you very much. Handy that you just happened to have one on you”
“Not handy at all madam. Efficiency. The manager has noticed that the spoon is the most common item of cutlery to be dropped. He's calculated that the time saved heading back to the kitchen to get a fresh spoon is considerable. It saves him 2.6 hours of waiters’ time over a month, so we all carry a spare spoon.”
“Wow. That’s impressive. Seems like he runs an efficient ship”
As they are enjoying their lunch one of the women notices that all the waiters have a piece of thread attached to their trouser zip.
“I wonder what that’s for. They’ve all got the same”
“No idea. Must be a new trend”
The meal continues and the wine flows. In the end, curiosity gets the better of one of them. She calls the same waiter over:
“Excuse me, but I can’t help noticing that you’ve all got a piece of cotton attached to your fly zip. What’s that all about?”
“Efficiency again, madam. We use the thread to close up our zips. It saves us having to wash our hands after we’ve been to the loo. The manager has worked out that he saves another 9.8 hours of waiters’ time over a month.”
“Most impressive” says the woman. But that’s OK for the zip. How do you avoid touching...you know… your er…”tackle”?”
“Oh that’s easy madam. We use the spoons that we all carry around in our top pockets!”
