But, come 22.00 one of the twins screams blue murder. Clean nappy, full tummy, winded.

Any idea, why? It’s 35 years since I went through this.

At just a few days old, she might like to be swaddled and comforted perhaps?
Perhaps she's punishing you for giving her an inferiority complex so early in life. No doubt she's heard the words, "The little one" and taken them to heart. Pay back time :-))
It sounds like the problem we had with our daughter some 50 years ago. At 2 or 3 months old she suddenly appeared to be in pain from about 6pm until 8pm and nothing would console her. After that she would take her feed and sleep until 8am the following day. The professionals put it down to colic and said it would stop at 6 months; they were right. Fortunately the sleeping through the night continued apart from when she was teething.
Have you thought about getting a priest round?
???
Spath - what are you on about?
Chrissa is asking for help!
Try the swaddling .
Maybe try different formula
I had the same with my daughter, Chrissa. Every evening about 5pm.
The health visitor said baby knew that was when daddy would come home and get some of the attention she was having and was having a protest......tried telling baby that daddy was working in Japan so she needn't worry.....I ask you.
What I have since found out from a friend whose daughter was having this with her baby was that holding the baby upside down....on the tummy not by the feet!.....eased the pain considerably.

Google images for holding baby upside down for colic to see the correct position.
I can't try it now as my baby is in her thirties.....but I'd give it a go. It's so distressing when you can't comfort a baby.....

Apologies if this has been tried....hope she settles soon....x

Thanks for all the helpful suggestions and some not so. The babies were only born on Friday, so early days.
Make sure their mum is not eating cabbage and beans and drinking orange juice. Notorious for colic in breast fed babies
