I didn't hear the broadcast, but I'd agree, that is careless speaking, and should not be happening on the BBC.
I just happened to turn Newsnight on and I got so angry at E. Maitlis .I couldn't believe it when she said that about Trump. The way she spoke to the American woman was disgraceful. It made for very uncomfortable viewing.

I was disappointed that on the Victoria Derbyshire show they had a small replica of the Trump baby blimp.

That's not the impartiality that the BBC prides itself on.
Emily Witless, like her co-presenter Kirsty (spell checker turned off) Wark, doesn't live in the real world.

It is certainly true that nobody Ms Maitlis has ever met likes Trump or has voted for Brexit. It is obvious to Maitlis that the fifty per cent plus of the UK electorate which voted for leaving the EU was either stupid or motivated by xenophobia. Similarly, that half of the US electorate which voted for Trump hates Mexicans and Muslims.

The simple idea that America should be spending money on its own citizens rather than gate-crashers with dodgy morals eludes the Maitlis and Wark types. As it does when people here oppose the importation of rapists and thugs into the UK.
A defining moment of Witless was her sneering interview with (I think) the Hungarian ambassador when she said that the political stance of the elected government contradicted the "European" values of - wait for it - diversity.

Witless, like every left wing student, knows nothing of the history of Hungary and the Balkans (or, I suggest, anywhere else).
And as we all know, the European values on "diversity" of which she spoke have led the continent (including the UK) to be ideal models of tolerance and integration.
You being sponsored for each time you can mangle her name VE?
when it comes to percentages of the british public's opinion of trump i would guess 0.1 feel antipathy and 99.9 are apathetic

I would have hoped that you could understand my deliberate misrepresentation of Ms Maitlis' name, Mamya: I disagree with the BBC Ministry of Truth and its propagandists.

If you don't understand my point I'm happy to elaborate.
I need no elaboration on word games thank you - thought this was a reasoned debate.
// thought this was a reasoned debate//

I rather thought that you were having one one your sneaky passive aggressive digs, Mamya. Wouldn't be the first, would it?

Nonetheles
You've got some nerve calling out Mamya for a "sneaky dig".

Come on, v-e, you are supposed to be at least a little better than that.
I didn't watch last night, if Emily categorically said 'everyone' she should apologise.

Were it meant as a generalisation then it fell below standard in that situation.
I didn't see the interview but I did read a very critical review of the book she has recently released.

Her promotion to the anchor role at Newsnight is another example of 'glam' taking precedence over the art of interviewing.

'[Emily Maitlis said of Trump]"president trump is hated by everyone over here"'

I have just listened to the programme and if it's the same segment, what she said was that Trump is "not liked at all here", no mention of "hated by everyone over here".

Whilst I agree that her comment was not appropriate, the words attributed to her were stronger than what she had actually said.
I certainly don't hate him. Silly moo !
Thanks for the clarification Corby.
// The simple idea that America should be spending money on its own citizens rather than gate-crashers with dodgy morals eludes the Maitlis and Wark types.//

oh come on gurlz aren't throwing their knickers at him ( like they did Elvis ) and yelling - feel my gusset
now are they
She actually said “is not liked at all here” and she put it to fellow journalist Liz Harrington of Fox News who is an outspoken defender of the President and so hardly neutral herself, as part of an interview held in conjunction with a studio discussion with Lord Falconer (antiTrump) and John Redwood (pro). (At one point Falconer was getting it from both sides)
(Before Harrington they had featured the Democrat Mayor of New York)
Journalists tend to ask questions as devils advocates: “So Ms Harrington, your man is quite good isn’t he: just HOW good?”
isn’t really the way to do it :-)
And by the way if Ms Maitliss displayed the “political commitment” evinced by her opposite number she’d be sacked.

I’d contend that when you are speaking to someone so plainly forthright in their opinions as Harrington or indeed anyone else in no matter what side, you are entitled to shoot from the hip.
As it was we had a lively and balanced discussion.
