Supporters of the super-casino are facing the possibility of a rebellion against the proposal when it is discussed in parliament today. Both Labour and Conservative MPs are rumoured to be intent on opposing the casino. Manchester won the right to build the mega-structure but there has been dismay and anger that Blackpool didn't get chosen. Should Blackpool have been given the rights for a casino? Do you think it's right for the government to allow a super-casino considering the problems that casinos bring?

The worst part of it is that Great Yarmouth (which is also in need of regeneration) have the rights to build a large casino and there has been much excitement in town - this is now in jeopardy as the effect of the lost vote (which is purely because of the location) would lose the whole bill.
living in blackpool i feel that this super casino was very much needed for our town. its becoming destitute and severley run down, the area it was supposed to revamp will now remain the vile scum pit that it is today. and as for the problems it brings, it cant be worse than getting smashed round the head by drunken tourist who decide that the opening door to boots is an open urinal?

i pray for a super-casino in blackpool i really do.
Coming over all puritanical, I would not be bothered in the slightest if the whole Casino proposal got ditched. I don't really buy the regeneration angle. It would make a lot of poor people even poorer, and only benefit Gordon and the owners.
The only reason this goverment want these Super Casino's, is the Tax they'll bring in, never mind the devastation and ruined lives they'll cause.
Its amazing isnt it? all the GA groups across the land have to fund themselves, while mr.Brown gets more and more money from taxes on super casinos... any plans to introduce and fund more gamblin addiction programmes for people i wonder.
Listening to some in depth reporting on the radio about this, and I think it will lead to more crime, (money laundering ) and attracting prostitution and drugs - so say the experts, so I wouldn't argue with that
I'm surprised the British public have any money left after betting all their cash in the property price boom?
They should have built a super casino in London to attract the foreign tourists. Not many go to Manchester or Blackpool!
I personally feel the whole idea of a super casino ought to be scrapped. I agree with other abers. It only brings heartache, addiction, poverty to some people who are unable to stop gambling.
I have nothing against gambling, do not gamble myself, hardly even the lottery, but the people who are behind owning such places and the government are the only winners that I can see.
Who really gives a toss? Blackpool, Great Yarmouth, Weston etc have all been dumps for years and as for ooohhhh casinos encourage people to gamble, what about horse racing??? Yawn.
I live near Great Yarmouth and really don't think we need a casino .There is enough unemployment in the area as it is and it will just encourage people to squander what little money they do have in the hope of a big win and lead them ever further into debt .
Also I cannot really see people who want to gamble seriously (those with the big money) travelling to GY to do it. .
The only people who would benefit would be our unscrupulous councillers who have their fingers in every pie and why the local people re-elect the same old faces everytime is beyond me.

As for it being a "dump" Reverandfunk .I beg to differ .Yes ..there are seedy parts but that's true of a lot of places .
We have a great fishing heritage in Yarmouth ..great museums ,one of which was a Gulbenkian Museum of the Year Finalist .A superb maritime Festival every year with the tall ships.Good shopping and a huge market twice a week and are a starting point for exploring lots of beautiful Norfolk scenery, the broads and villages .The seafront has undergone a huge facelift recently..and we have miles of sandy beach ...and a blue flag .
And there are no better chips in the land than chips from Yarmouth market !!
