Still no joy. Thank you both, i have checked my storgage, i have tried waiting, tried other apps, I have loads that need uodating but whether I go via App store, or try to update via the app itself, they all give the same message.

If you’re having problems installing the BT Sport App, please follow the steps below:
Check you haven't disconnected from your internet connection. DONE
Reboot your device and try again.DONE
Check your device has enough storage space. Your device user guide will show you how to do this. DONE
I did a proper reboot with Home and Off switch, waited for the the apple symbol, etc. and yes I am connected to internet hence being able to post on here. Same device I am using now.
