Hello. Glorious day here except that His Nibs has had to work all day (so that he can watch the match tonight) as his last exams are coming up! Say a prayer for him (or whatever you do). it matters so much to him (to us!!). But I've been able to sit in the garden and do the crossie. (Well, I had to earn my leisure. SWMBO had a number of jobs for me. Slavedriver!)

A couple that I need help with please.
13 ac Girl in Ginsberg poem a male spurned . I have E?I?A so Eliza fits but I don't know any Ginsberg poems so I have no idea if that is the answer.
35ac Notorious bar mostly clean. I have P?B?I? so public fits. Can public mean notorious? And what about the clean part?
8 d Tackle aboard in fine revolutionary raft (3,4) With the letters I have Kon Tiki fits and I read that at school but I don't really understand how I get there.

13 Ginsberg wrote a poem called America - so drop A M, a male, to egt Erica,girl.

35 I think Lick, would be the 'clean', and 'mostly' gives 'lic'.
13 (A M)Erica
8 Kit in in ok all reversed
35 Notorious can mean just 'generally known' or 'widely acknowledged', so I suppose that's the same as 'public'.

Thank you to all of you. I greatly appreciate your help. As always, easy when the explanation is there!
Is the Ginsberg poem famous? I have never heard of it. Not that I have read his stuff anyway. Should I?
steven
35 - that meaning is from Collins. Chambers says 'publicly known (only in a bad sense)' for 'notorious.'
Not one that I am familiar with either Steven, but if you want a read and give us a synopsis......... ;)))

Steven, I'd never heard of the poem - but that's par for the course! I've just looked it up and don't think it's my sort of thing. It's stream of consciousness stuff, pointing out US faults....
Question Author
Well, it was a quick read (obviously) but I see why they didn't teach it at school!! And is it poetry? I don't expect rhyming couplets but I am not convinced that just chopping prose into lines make it poetry.

s
I've just read it too (apologies for the bad language), and if I hadn't noticed it was written in 1956 I'd have said it was by some 1970s student smoking something more than a cigarette, but hey, the voice of protest lives on....
Question Author
It was the swear word that made me say that I understood why they didn't teach it at school! I'd better not say anything to SWMBO about it. I have a feeling that an early bath might follow....
