Sister wants a dishwasher 'to save all that pan scrubbing'.

Told her it doesn't in fact save all that scrubbing, and that you have to do all that scrubbing before putting pots and pans into it, or at least WE do that.

Are we wrong? Do modern dishwashers cope with bits of burnt-on food on saucepans, or hard bits on plates?

Just flew back to my childhood. Does your sink have the fitting for clamping a wringer to, ummmm?
Greasy dishwasher walls? again, unless you aren't using any detergent at all, I have no idea why this would happen. I empty the filter about once a week. and no, no prewashing, apart from, as I said, soaking the odd roasting pan.....even then I don't wash or scrub, just tip it out and put it in the dishwasher.
We rarely soak anything, generally only need to soak if something got burnt. Never ever seen greasy walls in our machines. We are on our 3rd machine in about 20 years and never had a repair done.
We wouldn't be without ours! They save a lot of work for sure!
I've had about 5 washing up bowls in 20 years @ £2 each. :)
The whole point of getting a dishwasher was cause I don’t like washing dishes, *** washing them before putting in dishwasher if needed they can be re done if still not clean
I have a slim fit beko but I do soak roasting pans first and use all in one tablets from aldis and put salt in dispenser ,everything comes out lovely and clean x
Anyone who doesn't have a dishwasher really needs to have a big think.

If you, your partner, house guest, kids, etc. like washing up so be it.

Otherwise, buy a dishwasher!!
Wouldn't be without one myself.
Here's my take. I don't put any pots and pans in the dishwasher as the cleaning process can be too harsh, sometimes affecting the finish.

Our dishwasher goes off once, every evening, filled with everything used during the day. Modern dishwashers are energy and water efficient. To clean everything in our dishwasher by hand would need two or three changes of hot water, soap etc. And even with hand washing, the crockery still has to be put into the bowl, washed, dried and then stored away, so there's no saving there. And 'yuk' to dirty water in the washing up bowl.
and you always find a teaspoon when you empty the bowl lol x
And dishwashers are far more hygienic
If I had my way there would be two dishwashers in our kitchen.
Put the dirty in one, take and use from the clean, when one is empty and the other is full rotate.
No need to unload and store stuff in cupboards.
I call that efficiency;-/
We're retired now and have loads of time to wash up but there are better things to do than stand over a sink .We spent years doing the dishes every night after being at work all day and used to sit there staring at it piled up each willing the other to go first or I'd get up at the crack of dawn and do it before going to work. Then we got a new kitchen with a built in dishwasher.Freedom! We've since moved but a new dishwasher was priority.
Best things since sliced bread and I don't even have to load or unload it.It's Mr S's baby.Everything sparkling clean.I would have a nervous breakdown if it conked out:)

Mine conked out. I had a new one on order the next day.
I have a dishwasher but only use it once in a while as there's only two of us.

I use the rinse cycle first and then do the intensive one.
No, Doug, it's just a very deep sink.
There's only the two of us, but we still use the dishwasher every day, more frequently when we have guests
There could a 6 of us or more for dinner and I don't always use it daily
