Just read in this week's Spectator that he died last week. His Sunday TV show (whatsitsname?) was required viewing. Never the same show after Matthew Parris took over.

RIP, Mr Walden.

Weekend World
An old friend or oppo was interviewed about him. He said Brian Walden had a wicked sense of humour but was a shocking liar. Apprently he tried to convince people he was an RAF Battle of Britain pilot.

Thanks, Douglas.

Catching up with This Week. See he's mentioned there.
Korean War, retrocop. He was a child during WWII.
Exactly douglas. That was the lie. I have tried to find the short interview which ,I realise now ,was by Matthew Parris. It was on LBC about Monday this week.
"Walden himself tended to embroider his background and his past – he claimed to have flown jets during the Korean war instead of being a national service RAF clerk and also to have been a British spy in Pakistan –"

He was a brilliant interviewer/interrogator and could really dig deeply into the subject with full half-hour interviews. Not like the 5-minute soundbite fests we get today. I'm not sure any of today's politicians would be up to it.
He was a superb interviewer, the iron fist in the velvet glove, "I take your point Minister, but let me ask you this …" - always polite, always apparently easy-going, but underneath he was forensic and utterly tenacious, getting far more with his careful probing than the dreadful Humphreys batters out of people who can't get a word in!
They mentioned his passing on the Baftas after the part where they show all the others that have sadly passed away.

I remember Weekend World when I was a kid. Loved the theme tune. RIP Brian Waldon :o(
