The Bible expresses an inescapable truth when it says: “The one walking with the wise will become wise, but the one who has dealings with the stupid will fare badly.” (Proverbs 13:20) This proverb speaks about more than casual contact. The expression “walking with” suggests ongoing association. Commenting on this verse, Indeed, because we attach ourselves emotionally to those we love, they can have a molding effect on us—for good or for bad.

goodlife, if the bible is the word of god, why is it finite? why has (s)he not added to it ? why do you think it's finished?
You never answer questions so I have learnt nothing from you, I guess that makes you foolish, so why should I listen to a foolish person?
What kind of friends do I want?

Ones that accept me for who I am.
//we attach ourselves emotionally to those we love, they can have a molding effect on us—for good or for bad. //

I think Goodlife is suggesting that we detach ourselves from those we love if they don't meet his criteria. So much for unconditional love.

Vulcan -the finite is Man’s insatiable curiosity drives him to expend energy, money, materials, and even lives in his quest for knowledge of the universe. While interplanetary travel is the immediate goal for some, for others the challenge is the earth itself. Crime, violence, and war reap lives on a daily basis. Man ruins the earth and creates an ecological imbalance with his pollution and commercial exploitation of its finite resources. The earth’s “lungs,” its forests, are being denuded. Earth’s water is being poisoned and wasted. Is there a viable solution to these problems? Yes, it is to bringing to your attention to God’s solution as found in the Bible. (1 Thessalonians 2:13.)

Naomi To have true faith a personal attachment and a loving relationship with God, to be his friend, is not unrealistic. It is attainable. True, we cannot strictly equate our love for God with human relationships. The love we feel for our mate, parents, siblings, children, or friends is different from the love we have for God. (Matthew 10:37) Loving Jehovah involves our devotion, worship, and an unconditional dedication to him.
You're wasting your time preaching to me, Goodlife. I've heard it all before. Quite honestly I wouldn't want to spend eternity with your bunch. Far too gloomy. I'm quite happy to die when the time comes.

I am not a religious person, in fact I am an agnostic but I do think that this particular proverb is quite accurate. If you surround yourself with smart people, you will become smarter because you will all learn from each other. If you surround yourself with muppets, then you only have yourself to blame when you are sitting watching Love Island and TOWIE.
I dont have many friends because I chose mine carefully, I do not need to be in human company for long periods so am happy to wait until I can be with the friends I have got. They are people that you can have an intelligent conversation with, discuss the issues of the day and I always find the conversation stimulating rather than numbing.

Bagpuss66 - thank you, quite right. Your a wise person.

Melv16 - Sorry to hear that. I was not invited to my brothers funeral and when there families got married, I was not invited to their weddings. Yet my non witness relatives were invited to my wedding. Its all down to personal choice.
