Toe Room Wanted

For all sorts of reasons (special insole, hammer toes, etc) I need a shoe with a DEEP toe-box, so that the knuckles of my toes don't blister by rubbing the roof of the shoe.

I used to buy these:

but they've stopped making them, and the few that are left around are too big or small (I need 10s).

Anyone else with a similar problem? If so, any recommendations. I did try getting some shoes hand-made by a firm in Birmingham a few years ago, but even though they were v.expensive, they weren't as good as those in the Amazon link in terms of comfort (and lack of blistering).

There are some similar styles.

I have bought a few from WiderFit over the years - in fact I think the Plymouths might have come from them.

They are sometimes wide enough, but rarely DEEP as well. But it is certainly worth another look.

Have you considered safety shoes or boots? These are good for toe room. They they are available in many styles and width fitting. I wear them by choice now. Sports Direct shops / Greenhams will let you try on without obligation.
"in fact I think the Plymouths might have come from them. "

They did BillB, but you're right in saying they are discontinued.
A pair of doc martians might suffice BB. They are quite deep.

Thanks kwill, nice idea.
I have the same problem and the onbly shoes I can wear are crocs

The safety boot idea is proving productive - both B&Q and Amazon have plenty, good choices - excellent idea - have a look, bednobs.
I have safety boots for work and find them extremely uncomfy
I would agree, they can be uncomfortable. I had many pairs over the years, for work. Shoes all my life.
How I over came the discomfort was Really, trying before buying. Then it is the usual breaking in. Also the laces that came with the shoes may need upgrading for comfort. I found the (for me) best laces have a slight 'give' - this helped with long distance walking. Also I found wearing socks inside out also prevented the stitching across the toe rubbing. I have very happy feet. Now, I can wear new safety shoes straight out the box. All weather's, though they can get hot, in summer.

Got it, kwillmott. Luckily, both the local B&Q and of course Amazon have a good returns policy, so having tried them on for an hour or so (won't need any longer), they can go back.

It would be nice to find some shoes that don't harm my feet (foot actually). I bought two pairs of the Plymouths when they were going- I should have bought more!

Maggiebee: don't forget Spath likes a tipple about this time of day, so I take his/her malapropisms with a pinch...

BB

Spath: Plymouth/Exmouth? Very similar product description to the original Plymouths, too. I shall keep a close eye on that one, to see if size tens turn up. I went from 9s to 10s on the advice of my podiatrist when I had my last orthotic insole fitted, but I think a ten and a half might be pushing it a bit.

Thanks for that link!

BB
They do seem very similar, except the Plymouths come up the ankle a bit more. This would be good for ankle support.

Happy to help
My brother was referred by his podiatrist to a nhs clinic for assessment on his feet. He got shoes made which he says are excellent. Also got a second pair. He has rheumatoid arthritis.
You might just find this site worth a browse Bill.
