About 2.3 tons in my house.
Have a very large Hennessy brandy bottle which is approx three quarters full of 1p, 2p and 5p coins. I also have separate smaller jar for 20p pieces. Empty my purse every night.

copper-plated steel and occasionally old-fashioned bronze - you can tell the difference with a magnet.
CASSA, I've just worked out your 2.3 tons of pennies and tuppences is £6,564.34 so you may want to stock up on the wee plastic bags for the bank.

Hammond has back tracked because he knows he will be getting rid of cash altogether so the Government can track our every move.
If anything, removing the coppers might see charity donations increase, because then the fi'pennies become loose change.

There's little point in a particular coinage of money if it isn't facilitating transactions. We lost farthings and halfpennies for the same reason.
it's facilitating the pricing of items at £1.99, though.
