So even snooker has jumped on the bandwagon with Seema Jaswal. Seems to have no clue about the game and asks the most inane questions. Hats off to the nugget and co who give the impression they are tolerating this woman.

No Jim....she should stick to doing that and stay away from everything else.
love my snooker but it's not rocket science is it? i watch the matches and ignore the pointless conversations afterwards that try to dissect what occurred

@Togo: why tho. Someone who's been around sports broadcasting for 25 years probably knows a fair bit about more than just horse-racing.
Togo - // … why does the licence fee funded broadcaster of a niche pastime need at least 7 washed up ex players on their expensive payroll? //

I think the assessment of the ex-professionals, and in the majority of cases, World Champions, as 'washed up' is somewhat harsh.

All sports on television attract the full range of viewers, from the utter novice to the complete expert, and the majority are somewhere in-between.

I for one am grateful for the observations by the experts, to educate me in aspects that are not clear to me by simply watching, and their ability to explain things without talking down is appreciated.

I don't think being retired from the top professional level of your sport makes you 'washed up' - just retired, which is not the same thing at all.
I think I'm getting where Andy Hughes is coming from. I think Jamiroqui are an incredible band, and I think Jay Kay is an incredible entertainer with a brilliant voice and their music is right up my street -as an entertainer I like him a lot - but Jay Kay as a person is a total ***.

Why is a question about snooker in the Sport section? Incredible skill is involved, granted, but there's no way it can be described as a sport. A club game yes. Same with darts.

well said Andy, "washed up" did seem a bit harsh to me too.

what category should I have used DD?
I think the constant running commentary on BBC is a bit of a pain; 'explaining' what the player is thinking and the alternatives to every shot. I like to hear the sound of the snooker-balls and the ref.'s voice counting the score though, so turning off the sound isn't an option, I've been watching it on German Eurosport 1, the commentator is knowledgeable and doesn't feel he has to constantly chatter.

The gang of old retired players think they are giving value for the money they are receiving. There is an old saying which applies, "Speech is silver, silence is gold".

Watching the table being prepared and racked (wracked?) for the next frame would be more interesting than listening to the same old questions being endlessly asked, - "how do you think he feels?" etc.
with all those morons in the background , "Look mam, I'm on the telly".
It is a bit like the patrons of the cantina in Star Wars behind the experts sometimes.

I'm finding Seema Jaswal very watchable though.
Does she speak at all? Haven't noticed.

If you are watching and not always aware of what shot should / would be best to play next and how it should be played ( like me ) ; then the explanation is very welcome
Guess people moaning about modern snooker commentary grew up in the 1980s with Karnhem and Lowe, who barely said anything. Sometimes that's more effective, too. The classic "Noo!" when Davis missed the black would clearly be so much more atmospheric than Virgo's "He's missed the black, and WHERE'S THE CUEBALL GOING?! Oh the black's over the pocket, and Dennis Taylor will come to the table now, with a sitter to win his first world title. All he has to do is keep calm...", etc etc.
Those hushed tones, 'Whispering Ted Lowe', he's sadly missed. "And for those of you who are watching in black and white, the pink is next to the green." "A little pale in the face, but then his name is White."
