I own my flat worth about £170 000, I am now retired and living on basic pension. No money coming in but I have about £20 000 in savings. I am just short of buying somewhere else more suitable, as I live in the S E and I am happy here. I have no dependants. I,d like to move as I can't manage stairs now. I have no family help. I know I can't get a mortgage at my age. What's the answer ?

You could keep your property and rent it out....then use the rental income to rent a more suitable property.Even a sideways move will cost you your savings.
My HOOP link works for me
FF does not work for me either.
okay well google HOOP or leave it . These are just ideas- you need to do some follow up research yourself to find something in your area
Have you selected an area?
This still works for me- I've put in a random London area

I really wouldn't rent, that's dead money, and anywhere nice will be hefty price wise. Nothing to stop you getting a mortgage if you have plenty of equity as someone else said even into your 80's.x

Calicogirl I won't rent as you say dead money. I will pay more in rent than I take in renting my flat out for, near Brighton
If you sell your flat and buy a ground floor one in Brighton with a small mortgage you will be spoilt for choice. Have a look here.
