Hi
We have a 2 year old flat coated retreiver who has had a lump removed off his toe and still has a lump on his face and this has been sent off for histology and both have come back as malignant histiocystic sarcoma, An aggressive form of cancer. We were going down the route of xray scan etc to see if had spread but when we got to vets his rear groin lymph gland was swollen so was assumed it already had spread - feel helpless as doing nothing as we want him to enjoy every moment rather than chemo/radiotherapy and the travel to and from and the side effects etc that would only prolong his life for a few weeks perhaps? Help needed please - love him so much and feel so helpless - ???

Only the vet can give you the prognosis but I will be thinking of you and your little lad. x
Is he in pain, lulu, are the swellings affecting his life at the moment? Very sad for you - but you will know when he can't take any more. I hope you all have a good Christmas together - but please listen to your vet. As you say, from what the vet has told you so far, any treatment may only give him a few more weeks, we have to think about our pets' quality of life when they are sadly so ill. Thinking of you both ♥
What a dreadful thing to happen. So sorry for you all, I'm sure you are doing the right thing if the vet thinks the prognosis is not good. Can he not be referred to a cancer specialist who might offer some alternative?
Just been reading up and found this link, which says this is hereditary in some breeds, including Flatcoats.

Doesn't sound good I am afraid, so very sad.
