I have read somewhere (can't remember where) that certain customers of BT will be having their charges increased, and that BT will not be telling them, it will be done automatically. There was a phone number, which I still have, and it said that the account holder should ring BT and inform them that they did not give permission for the increase. I can't remember exactly the details and before my husband rings BT it would be good if someone could shed any more light on this. The increases are due to start in April. Does any one know anything else?

I reckon that I'm pretty good a googling, particularly when the thing I'm looking for (such as a BT price rise) is likley to trigger loads of posts across multiple forums and news sites.

However I can't find a single web reference which corresponds with the information in your post.

That alone would be enough to make me doubt the authenticity of the information you've been given. If you then add in BT's pledge in January that theyll not put up any of their prices until March of next year, I find myself strongly suspecting that you've been on the receiving end of some dodgy information:

Might be useful to give it jamesnan.

The phone number was 0800 030 4525 - I just wanted some prior information before asking my husband as the account holder, to ring them up, because he is not the most patient of people and prefers to have some knowledge of what he is supposed to ask. Otherwise I will leave it till the statement comes in and see if it has gone up this month.
If you pay by direct debit, I believe that you
must be notified about any increases before they are put in place.
Takes effect from today!
