My passport is less than 4 years old and I need to change it into my married name.

1. Do I have to send new photos or can I keep current one? (I actually have 2 spare copies of current passport pic).

2. Do I need to send marriage certificate?

3. Do I need a countersignatory?

I'd be grateful for simple straightforward answers and no links to Gov websites.

You need to apply with your marriage certificate.
Countersignatory and new photos only needed if your appearance has changed
Can you not just leave it in your maiden name until after your holiday?

The holidays are booked in my married name, so no.

Appearance hasn't change. Thanks for the clarity, Ich.
Oh...Okay.
I was told that you do actually when I asked as it's a renewal and you need new photos every time you renew, plus they won't add your remaining time to your passport you'll just get a spanky new 10 year one saying Mrs Loveofmylife :)x
When I had to renew after divorce and remarriage, I sent off new photo (unsigned) and marriage certificate and, of course, old passport.
No you definitely don't need to send photos unless your appearance has changed. And if you do need to send photos, and they look substantially different from the existing ones and are not counter-signed, then the application will be delayed. Better that tho than having your passport refused at an airport.
You will get a new passport lasting 10 years, which is only right, as you're paying the full whack for it!
You can’t just change your name. You need a whole new passport, which is why I’ve booked my current holiday in my maiden name, and my passport will probably stay in that name until it runs out.
To change your details after the ceremony, send in your marriage certificate with your passport application.
According to this link you need to provide photos even if your appearance has not changed - and they must be no more than a month old

Just to point out, whilst I'm paying the full renewal fee, I'm not renrwing my passport I'm simply changing my name.

My paperwork seems to suggest that I do not need to supply new photos or have them countersigned.

Thanks for all the answers.

Hi all.

I thought some of you might appreciate an update.

PP application was sent by recorded delivery last week.

I sent my old passport, marriage certificate, the same two photos which are on my existing passport which are 4 years old and did not get them countersigned, and a cover letter, with my debit card details for processing payment (£85)

Today I had a text to say my new passport will be with me by 01 May and they've taken payment from my account.

I guess they're satisfied that I am who I say I am, and my details correspond with my debit card name and registered address, and so they've not insisted on more recent photos or a countersignatory.

Happy days.

:-)
But surely what you were really hoping for was a message saying "These photographs can't possibly be of you because they clearly show someone twenty years younger than you", wasn't it?

;-)
