Connecting Acer Chromebook To Printer

I have an Acer chromebook and an HP Deskjet 2540 both wi-fi and am having trouble connecting the 2. The chromebook is reading the hub and the printer is also reading it. but although a pop-up on the chromebook says printing now, 15 seconds later it says printing error and doesn't print.
We have tried rebooting both but to no avail

It looks as if you might be out of luck. You can't print from a Chromebook without installing the app which SA links to but the Deskjet 2540 isn't shown as being compatible with it:
