/// The next day on the BBC’s flagship Today radio programme another report again referred to the Grand Wizards without acknowledging that it was a term exclusively used by the KKK. ///

/// The MEPs add: “While it might seem light-hearted and entertaining to white journalists we can assure you that it will cause dismay and distress to many in our ethnic minority communities who feel increasingly fearful and vulnerable.” ///

Your 'really??????' comment suggests you think ethnic minorities shouldn't be offended, dismayed or distressed by the overtly KKK reference? Is that the case, AOG?
The BBC are right-wing racists.....?!?

But...but...surely they are all left-leaning, pinko, commie-loving, liberal-elites....???

Or was that last week?

A true case of some being offended on behalf of others.
More confected outrage...….not that I mind the Beep Beep See getting a kicking you understand. Not one MEP, or for that matter, not one member of their coveted "ethnic minorities" has ever been anywhere near one of the Southern, Democratic, States of America. If they didn't know what a GW was before they do now. Bless.
Language is a fluid entity, and as such, it means many things to many people.

Difficulties arise when people with an over-developed sense of persecution on behalf of others, start to see inferences where none really actually exist, unless you create them, and I suggest that this is the situation here.

I would not have automatically drawn a conclusion that a group of white politicians referring to themselves, or being referred to by others as 'grand wizards', to automatically suggest an implied link to the KKK.

Probably, neither would the KKK, but as an organisation that thrives on publicity, especially free publicity which attaches no blame to them, they will be delighted to talk up the link offered to them.

The notion of 'offence' looms large in our society, but in this instance, as in all others, it's best to wait for the potentially offended individuals to register their offence first, rather than registering it on their behalf.

That only smacks of superior irrelevant handwringing designed to score brownie points with an electorate, with elections in the offing.

you missed out - pointy headed skinny pseudo intellectuals

here we are - complete political chaos over Brexit
and we are earnestly discussing grand wizards

The BBC reporting two incidents this week that Brexiteer Tory MPs had taken to calling themselves “The Grand Wizards, only goes to place them all as "left-leaning, pinko, commie-loving, liberal-elites".

Those descriptions are yours and not mine.
I was wondering that, togo. Why would any of our beloved ethnic minorities get upset about a defunct branch of the Democratic Party.
Grand Poohbahs might be more accurate.
You seem to have answered a completely different question to the one I asked, AOG. So, for clarity, I'll repeat it......

Your 'really??????' comment suggests you think ethnic minorities shouldn't be offended, dismayed or distressed by the overtly KKK reference? Is that the case, AOG?

I must say that's not the way I interpreted AOG's point - in my view he was astounded at the notion that MEP's are actually accusing the BBC of using 'white supremacist' terms without what they view as appropriate qualification.
Fair enough. If that's what he meant.
Zacs - // Fair enough. If that's what he meant. //

Well, it's what I think AOG meant, no doubt he will clarify when he returns.

I have to say if I am correct is assessing his expression of incredulity, I would have to agree with it entirely.

If I was a member of an oppressed minority, I would rather express my dismay personally, than have it assumed for me, and the hi-jacked by a bunch of middle-class politicians looking to sound as 'right on' as they can manage in order to score votes.
//If I was a member of an oppressed minority//

Who are these 'oppressed' minorities?

Thanks very much for your answer to Zacs on my behalf, that is exactly my answer and conveyed to him better than I could have done.
